WITHOUT THE PROTECTION OF A HOSELINE - THE UNCOMFORTABLE REALITY (8 Hours)

Sunday Oct 15

Time: 0800

24 Student Max

Location: Fall River FD Training Division

Daniel Gordon and Flashfire Industries

Water application on a fire is the most important action on the fireground. But in the case of water problems, long or complicated stretches, standpipe operations, unknown location of fire, or confirmed life hazard, there may be a search team operating inside prior to the hoseline. This class will focus around how to do this in the safest way possible. The main objectives will be to review the modern fireground (contents, ventilation, construction), thermal imaging use, door control, and can confidence. Blending these together, we will attempt to set you up for success the times that there is no hoseline present. This will be a combination of classroom, skills, demonstrations, and live fire.

Rapid Intervention is a concept that is overcomplicated by many. The mission is quite clear, locate the downed firefighter, package them and GET THEM OUT! Time is of the essence and a cache of tools will not always be available. Our Rapid Intervention Program teaches skills requiring "bare bones equipment". In other words, using the tools you will most likely have in your hand when the situation goes down. Learn from Instructors that have been involved in actual Firefighter Removals and have helped to establish successful R.I.T. Programs which techniques can help expedite the removal of a firefighter in need of assistance. This class will cover various drags, carries, high point rescue, and airway management of a downed firefighter.

Lecture to support the hands on will be presented by Mark Gregory - FDNY
